Community Interest in Fingerboards EES

   Friday 11th September, 2020

Kalbar Operations, the proponent of the Fingerboards Mineral Sands Project, says the release of the Environment Effects Statement (EES) has attracted strong community interest.

The EES was released last week and more than a hundred copies have been distributed to community members and organisations as part of the public review and submission process.

Kalbar CEO, Jozsef Patarica, said: “This is an important milestone for the project as the community and State Government review the EES as part of the approvals process for the project.”

Mr Patarica said: “Over the past three years as we have prepared the EES, we have involved the community in the process, seeking input along the way and presenting findings as they come to hand.”

The EES process is managed by the Victorian Government and has been overseen by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning and a State Government appointed Technical Reference Group.

Kalbar has held more than 20 community consultation meetings and sessions throughout the EES process and has documented the community feedback in the EES and on its Fingerboards Project web site.

Mr Patarica said: “We appreciate that there are many different views out there and we have tried to reach out to everyone in the community and to make sure they have access to all the information they need.”

“We have spoken to many community members who are yet to make up their minds and we are keen to make sure they have access to the information they need,” he added.

The public review and comment process for the Fingerboards mineral sands mine EES closes on 29 October 2020.

Further information and details about how to make a submission is available on the Fingerboards Project web site.
