Maurice Kok – Head of Business Development and Marketing
I have joined the Kalbar Operations team to develop and establish market strategy for all products. I am tasked to identify and develop the right customers who will best fit with the Fingerboards project’s products to create profitable, long-term business relationships focused on customer satisfaction, keeping in mind the company’s interests.
Prior to joining Kalbar Operations, I worked for TiZir as sales manager zircon, rutile and leucoxene for the Grande Cote mineral sands mine in Senegal. I led the development of the zircon marketing and sales strategy and implemented the strategy and was involved since before the start of mining in 2014. The business had to be built from scratch and involved finding the right customers, packing, logistics etc to the establishment of a sales support team and sales network and finding the balance between both internal and external stakeholders.
I believe that the Fingerboards project has a bright future – the market demand is high and demand for zircon is growing. The rare earths minerals are essential in the global transformation to clean energy and Asia is driving an increase in demand for titanium dioxide minerals – ilmenite and rutile. Concurrently, several mines are approaching end of mine life which augurs well for the Fingerboards project.
COVID-19 is restricting my travel to Bairnsdale – I am currently based in Norway with my family. However, technology allows me to follow East Gippsland news online via the Bairnsdale Advertiser and I use Google streetview to ‘drive’ down Bairnsdale’s main street.
